I played in adventurers league in curse of Strahd and we joined Strand. So the DM remake the whole book to fit that.

Mordenkainen is a lvl 27 wizard. He could have taken that fight alone. This isn't Harry Potter, wizards don't need a staff, especially not a lvl 27 one. This module is weird. Mordenkainen casts imrpisonment (he knew he was fighting a vampire, he would prepare something like it) and Strahd is gone.

This is funny after playing BG3

5th lvl campaign, here is a lvl 1, she cannot die, playing with strangers, forced to follow module, module assumes players want to submit themselves as slaves and give up all gear... Adventurer's league sounds bad.

Think you have an incomplete understanding of the rules. Gygax included a class tier list that provided nonsimular starting resources dependent on your starting class, From LLC to UUC. Also, If you wanted to send your hirlings into danger is fine and not game breaking , as alignment justifies such actions . Remember a player is not constrained to play a good character in adnd and the dm should provide consequences. What else: yes, there are turns, but they are broken down into segments.

The tax thing is interesting, since DMs have total control over how much treasure the players find.

We had a variant of this in one campaign I was in. We had a fight against a mechanical beholder and, due to an especially wild wild magic surge and a ruling from a DM who loved us, we disabled it. Our artificer then asked if he could turn the disabled mechanical beholder into a functioning vehicle. The DM allowed him to roll for it with a tool check. I don't remember exactly what he rolled but, after modifiers, it was over 30. The DM said that it would take a while but it could be done. And so the party ended up with what can only be described as a beholder tank, and I don't mean tank as in the counterpart to dps and support, I mean tank as in the military vehicle.

Cats are beholders. They're absolutely convinced that they are the perfect lifeform, and I just want to believe my cat can cast disintegrate at will.

My DM has a range of which we can have our stats total up to. Usually 75-80. This allows us to roll for stats and keep us from being too over powered but keep each of our character’s stats from dominating another’s.

From what I hear 4E is just D&D, but that's hyper focused on combat and somehow doesn't even make that work right. Like a fantasy war game. Idk, sometimes I think about trying 4E but if I was gonna do that I feel like I should seek out basically anything else, maybe play Warhammer instead because people care about that game.

I for one am excited for the 4e renaissance
